Underscores in URLs are Now SEO Friendly
For many years, SEOs and even Matt Cutts with Google have been preaching to use hyphens instead of underscores in your URLs. However, that all changed last week when Matt Cutts changed his position because of recent Google improvements and announced at WordCamp 2007 that underscores are now word separators (or at least will soon be) in Google.
Barry Schwartz with Search Engine Land followed up with the other major search engines and found out that it’s not just Google that now treats underscores like dashes. Yahoo and Microsoft confirmed that they do treat underscores the same as dashes or hyphens in the URL.
